What To Expect...

Never Had a Therapeutic Massage Before?

You've come to the right place to find out what to expect!

You will be asked about your health history, current physical condition, stress levels, and whether any part of your body is particularly sensitive.  After discussing what you would like to accomplish, it's time to relax and enjoy!  The Massage Therapist will leave the room while you undress to whatever level is comfortable for you.  Many people undress completely for a full body massage, although some choose to wear underwear.  You then relax on the massage table and cover yourself with a warm sheet.  The room is dimly lit with soft music playing to enhance your relaxing experience.  Throughout your session, the sheet is draped over your body and only the area being massaged will be exposed. Lotion or oil is applied to the body to reduce friction, then we use a system of long strokes, kneading, friction techniques and passive movements of joints to different sections of the body.  The session starts with gentle holds, then light introductory strokes, in order to build trust and for you to get a sense of the therapist's touch. Gradually, deeper and more specific strokes to the muscles are added.  You will occasionally be asked for your preference regarding the depth of the massage techniques.  Allow the Massage Therapist to gently move your limbs into various positions...be limp, like a rag doll, and try not to help move your arms, legs, or head. Always feel free to express any discomfort you might experience, especially if the therapist is addressing a problem area.  You may experience strong emotions, which is natural, or you may fall asleep which is also natural.  Massage will bring you back in touch with yourself and relieve your aches and pains.

Once the massage is complete, you will be left alone to relax for a few moments.  Listen to your body and reconnect with it.  After getting dressed, we can discuss your massage experience.  Let the Massage Therapist know if there were any strokes you liked or disliked, so we can use this information during your next visit.
